The Story
Jude grew up in this Wonga Park home, and her family had lived there for more than 60 years. She didn’t want to leave the area or the block she loved, so she came to us with a clear idea: knock down the old family home and build a new one on the same ground, designed for her life today.
The block looks straight out to the Dandenong Ranges, and the whole design is built around that outlook. The kitchen, living area and alfresco all face the mountains. A full-length porch runs across the front, and inside there are three bedrooms (two with ensuites), a large main bathroom, a study with its own skylight, a billiards room and a formal entry. The 2-pac shaker kitchen has natural stone benchtops, with two skylights directly over the island.
Blackbutt flooring runs through the whole home and continues as a shiplap feature wall in the billiards room. Every external bulkhead is wrapped in James Hardie Axon with mitred edges, so the grooves flow unbroken around each corner, and the composite Ekodeck deck needs no sanding or oiling. The build was completed in just over 10 months.
Craftsmanship & Build Process
Wonga Park sits in a bushfire-prone area, so fire safety requirements shaped this build from day one. Working through council and bushfire requirements took patience, and it was a journey Jude and Blair took together. Careful planning of how every stage would be built meant the home met every requirement without compromising the design she wanted.
