The Brighton Project

The Story

This young family loved Brighton, the bay, the beach and the community, but they didn’t love their house. Rather than leave, they chose to knock it down and build the family home they’d always pictured in the suburb they wanted to stay in. Their brief was light, space and the way a young family really lives.
 

From the street, bagged brickwork pairs with James Hardie Axon cladding, a balcony looks out over the front of the property, and floor-to-ceiling windows wrap most of the ground floor. Inside, the ceilings rise to four metres and five skylights pull natural light deep into the main living areas. The glazing opens the kitchen, dining and living spaces straight onto the courtyard and pool.
 

The home has four bedrooms, two separate living areas, a walk-in pantry and a generous laundry. The main suite sits in its own wing, away from the other bedrooms. Herringbone timber floors and premium joinery run throughout, and every bathroom has custom vanities and considered tilework.

Craftsmanship & Build Process

The clean roofline and open glazing took serious engineering. Steel portal frames run from the ground floor through to the first floor to carry the loads, and the roof was built with cantilevered, hand-pitched rafters and beams, with every rafter worked out and cut on site. Getting the roofline to flow took careful planning and precise detailing at every step, and the home was finished at handover to the standard it was designed to on paper.
